Advanced Information Access's experience in implementing sophisticated Oracle database solutions was recognised in 1997 when AIA was appointed an Oracle Reseller.

Our skills cover every aspect of an Oracle implementation :

DBA Expertise

The role of Data Base Administrator is key to any successful Oracle implementation. Our DBAs bring together commercial knowledge and technical expertise to be able to fulfill this ever more demanding role. This requires a three-way balancing act between understanding the business objectives, implementing an optimal data structure, and adapting this to the requirements of the application designers.

Databases can take two main forms. One is the more dynamic read/write/update scenario characteristic of transaction processing, the other is the more static write once/ read many form of the management information system. Our DBAs are expert in both these areas.

Data Loading

Loading data into an Oracle database is one of those requirements that is so obvious that it tends to be forgotten until quite late in the design stage. The two aspects that require the special skills which AIA is regularly called on to provide are :

Initial Load

The initial load into any Oracle database will be from a variety of possible sources, from other relational databases to legacy systems. In all cases data validation and cross indexing procedures are essential to ensure the integrity of the data.

Data Capture

Any substantial Oracle system will have an ongoing requirement to capture live data from a number of sources outside the Oracle environment. These will include EDI, hand held terminals and stand-alone departmental systems. Once again, the loading of this live data into Oracle will require management and careful validation, quite apart from on-going audit procedures, and AIA is regularly asked to bring its cross-platform skills to this problem.

Commercial Applications

The AIA Oracle team has designed and built a number of commercial applications using Oracle 8 and Oracle RDB. The typical application involves Sales Order processing, invoicing, purchasing, stock control, warehouse management and ledgers in a wholesale distribution environment.

Earlier systems were written using front end tools such as DEC Forms, later replaced by Oracle Forms 4.5. The AIA team is now making increasing use of Oracle Designer 2000 in the design and implementation of these projects.

Management Information Systems

The AIA team has implemented a number of Management Information Systems (MIS) in Oracle, ranging from the simplest 'Job History' type application to a 300 GB+ database designed to drive a specially tailored Data Warehouse.

The Data Warehouse

The AIA team works closely with Oracle's own consultants to build the more complex Data Warehouses, using multi dimensional extensions such as Oracle Sales Analyser and Financial Analyser.

Cross Platform Integration

The modern enterprise brings together many disparate systems around a core, which is frequently Oracle. One of the secrets of our success is our expertise with all the other databases that have historically been used commercially, and our ability to interface them with Oracle to provide seamless cross-platform integration.
