South East sailors Eddy Short and Nick Morwood have been chosen to compete in the RYA National Aloha squad in 1997.
They will be expected to commit to the UKBSA National Series starting at Grafham in April. This promises to be a very exciting series, with events all over the country, and Nick and Eddy's results will determine whether they compete in the World Championships in Poland in August.
They will also be competing in the North Sea Cup, which this year will be held at Grevelingen in Holland, Ostende in Belgium, Pevensey in Sussex, and Wimereux in France.
Prizes include travel grants to the Baltic Cup in Sopot, Poland made available by the North Sea Cup Organisation.
The full squad comprises:
|
Jason Rae Guy Solven Mark Roberts Russell Edwards Peter Miles Chris Moorhouse |
Catherine Potter Jessica Ash Claire Gaskell Jenny Ryan Oliver Woodcock Louis Kirchell |
Eddy Short Nick Morwood Sam Bromley Michael Wand-Tetley Daniel Ince Ian Jamieson |
Coaches - Isy Hutchinson, Brian Cambell-Bottoms

We have met many of these sailors before on this web site, refer to Rutland or Calshot for photos.
Fitness is a key requirement for the squad, and must be maintained throughout the season. The first training session will be on the Isle of Wight at the end of February, where the UK Sailing Academy is very generously offering free use of its facilities. This will be followed by the Easter Training Camp at Weymouth later in March. The RYA will carry out regular fitness testing, so Eddy and Nick will have to work hard!
The RYA is subsidising some of the events to help with the considerable expense involved, in particular the International Training event in Belgium.
