Monday 29th July

The wind was so light that we stayed off the water all day apart from one race in the afternoon. We looked at tuning - board, rig and harness lines.

The race didn't count for the Rutland Gorge Challenge as there was no wind at all. Pump, pump, pump, pump....

Tuesday

The wind was light again, force 2 at most, which was better than yesterday.

We worked on starts and transits. In the races, the heavy sailors, like me and Eddy Short, were left behind by the lightweights like Olly Woodcock, Dan Ince, Claire Gaskell, Catherine Potter and Jess Ash. In fact, they whipped our arses.

Wednesday

Cool! Wind at last!

We worked on leylines for half an hour until the wind picked up, then everybody went blasting. The instructors couldn't catch us in the boats, apart from Mike Birt on his K-Bay course board and Pryde VX2. We had fun.

Two races were run, and noone could handle the conditions apart from Eddy, Nick Dempsey, Guy Solven, Catherine Potter and me. Everyone seemed to be crashing into Ed and me on the start line, but we still managed respectable positions.

Everyone was knackered and went in, apart from Eddy, Nick Dempsey and Guy who got out their short boards for some serious blasting. I stayed out as well, and although not having a short board (I'm saving up!), I still had great fun on the Aloha. The others finally went in for dinner at 6:15. I missed dinner 'cos I was having too much fun!

Fortunately, Mike Birt got us some chips later from round the corner, so I didn't starve. Cheers Mike!

Thursday

There was slightly less wind today, but basically the same as yesterday, Force 4-5. Eddy and I did even better in the races, because everyone was completely knackered.

And today we got dinner. Hooray! Lassagna. Why can't they cook us something like this every night?

That's me!

Friday

Damn - the wind has dropped off!

Ed trashed his knee sometime on Thursday, so today he couldn't sail properly. We still did okay though, apart from lightweight sailors passing us when they shouldn't.

Cool, it's over, I want some sleep....

p.s. Thanks to Tony for taking the pics, Mike Birt for the chips, Isy from the RYA and everyone else at Rutland for giving us such a great time.
